The Master Biochemistry

In close cooperation with our students, we have fundamentally revised the MSc Biochemistry.

A central concept of the revised Degree program is flexibility: our students should be given more options to adapt their MSc studies independently to their specific interests and career aspirations. Accordingly, they can selectively choose the courses that really interest them from the modules on offer. The 2-year program is divided into: (detailled information see course structure.)

Introductory area (I1 | 3 CP)
3 Core areas (at least 38 CP) - C1 Cellular & Organismic Biochemistry (8-27CP), C2 Molecular Biochemistry (6-24CP), C3 Biochemical Methods (6-24CP) - from which at least 2 modules must be selected.

Elective area (max. 15 CP) - a wide range of elective options from the fields of biochemistry, chemistry, biology, pharmacology, key qualifications and economics.
Applied research (34 CP) - A1 Group & A2 individual research proposal, Research internships A3
Master's thesis (A4 | 30 CP)

The courses are taught in English, only in the elective area some are offered in German only.

Combining research internships | Zusammenlegen von Forschungspraktika

The regulations for combining the two research internships have been changed. From now on, both 6-week internships can be combined into a 12-week internship, regardless of where they are completed.
Here are the current regulations.

Die Regelungen zum Zusammenlegen von Forschungspraktika wurde geändert (Dies betrifft alle Studierenden.) Ab sofort können beide Praktika, unabhängig dazu, wo sie absolviert werden, zu einem 12-Wochen Praktikum kombiniert werden.

Neues Modul im Wahlpflichtbereich

New Module Advanced Bottom-up Synthetic Biology (4 CP | Dr. Chakraborty)
in summer term S Advanced Bottom-up Synthetic Biology (2 SWS / 4 CP)

NEW modul iGem (3-7 CP): can be taken twice, both in Bachelor's (from 3rd semester) or Master's programme.
Students can participate in either Project development and / or Project implementation.

winter: Seminar Project development (2 SWS, 3 CP): Development of a new iGem Project for the iGem competetion
summer: Project+Seminar Project implementation (2 SWS, 4 CP): Independent work on the project in the wet lab, dry lab, human practices and finances + weekly projects meetings.

Wahlpflichtbereich

Virtuelle Akademie Nachhaltigkeit

Derzeit werden von der VAN insgesamt 13 digitale Kurse zu Nachhaltigkeit angeboten. Diese können flexibel zeit- und ortsunabhängig erarbeitet werden. Es ist möglich einen Kurs mit 3 CP im (freien) Wahlpflichtbereich einzubringen.
Am Ende des Semesters folgt eine e-Klausur (1 Stunde), nach deren erfolgreichen Abschluss pro Kurs 3 CP erworben werden können.
